What is Repeater
A Repeater or Regenerator is an electronic device that operates on only the physical layer of the OSI model. A Repeater installed on a link receive the signal before it become too weak or corrupted ,the Repeater regenerate the signal and puts the refreshed copy back to the link. A Repeater allows us to extend only the physical length of a network. The Repeater does not change the functionality of the network in any way. A Repeater does not amplifying the signal, regenerates it. A Repeater connects the two segments of the network, regenerates the signal to the proper amplitude and send to the next signal for sending the signal at the destination. It require small amount of the time to regenerate the signal. Repeater gives the power to the weak signal and extends the distance over which data can safely move.
The Repeater that are also used in the transmission system used to regenerate the signal by the transmission loss. There are two types of Repeater used in transmission system-Analog Repeater and Digital Repeater. Analog repeater can only amply the signal whiles the digital repeater reconstruct the signal again. In the network devices active hub are repeater and they are sometime called multiport repeater and the passive hubs are not repeater.
Passive Repeaters or passive radio link deflection are used in microwave communication where no direct line of sight link is possible. It has the advantage of the installation of microwave radio relay station that at the place of there is no electricity required and no frequencies are needed. The passive Repeater in the vertical level receives the signal with a parabolic antenna and sends to other parabolic antenna. Repeater uses copper wire cable carrying the electrical signal and fiber optics cable carrying the light signal.
Repeaters are use in radio communications to send and transmit the signal at different frequencies and repeater that are used in broadcasting services known as translator. Repeater also used in Satellite communication and known as transponder.
